It couldn't have come at a better time and this Evasi0n iOS 7 jailbreak is available for both Windows and Mac users and works on all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models running iOS 7.0, 7.0.1, 7.0.2, 7.0.3 and 7.0.4. This includes the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPhone 4, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini 2 and the iPod touch 5. Those of you who are interested in getting this jailbreak right away can do so by downloading Evasi0n from the official website at Evasi0n.com. This unexpected release has also caught Saurik, the founder of Cydia by surprise and he has clarified it on Twitter that the Cydia build included in version 1.0 of Evasi0n 7 isn't official, and hence it could have some bugs. Tweaks relying on Substrate will have issues with this early release of Evasi0n but this will be fixed in later versions of Evasi0n 7. We have also been informed that Evasi0n 7 is also compatible and will work with iOS 7.1 beta 2. We are not here to talk to you about iOS 7 today or how many people are using it, we are here to talk about the progress being made with a jailbreak for this firmware. We have been tracking the progress of the upcoming untethered jailbreak over the last few weeks and we are delighted to report that the people behind this project have released a video demonstrating this untethered jailbreak in action. This jailbreak is still a little buggy but progress is being made and iH8sn0w has also shed some additional light on the iOS, 6.1.3/6.1.4 A5+ jailbreak status. On his blog, iH8sn0w confirms that Apple has now officially closed the ability for users to downgrade back to iOS 6.1.x from iOS 7. The good news is that it has been confirmed that everything that is required for the iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 untethered jailbreak on A5+ devices is in place. The problem being faced at the moment is fixing internal bugs that simply cannot be shipped with a public jailbreak. This was confirmed by Winocm who is apparently the main person behind this jailbreak. The current issues facing the team involve native apps on the device managing to delete themselves as well as problems surrounding the activation of iMessage and FaceTime. That's great news for those running iOS 6.1.4 or 6.1.3 but what about iOS 7? Well we know that the Evad3rs team is currently exploring iOS 7 exploits and we also know that Cydia, MobileSubstrate and WinterBoard are all broken on the latest firmware so a jailbreak is a good bit off yet. Attention is also being paid to the latest version of iTunes which was released with iOS 7. It seems that iTunes 11.1 completely kills custom firmware restores on iOS 7 for A4 and below devices. IH8sn0w is currently working on a fix that can be implemented into future versions of Sn0wbreeze and iFaith. Apple seeded iOS 7 GM download to developers last week and this saw the Evad3rs team actively begin their investigations into the final version of iOS 7 to see which of their exploits worked and which ones didn't. Judging by Pod2g's tweet, progress is definitely being made and if you are someone who is looking forward to a jailbreak on Apple's latest firmware release then this really is good news. We should also mention, that if you are currently using a jailbreak on iOS 6 and you want to keep your untethered jailbreak, you should refrain from updating to iOS 7 when Apple releases it later this week. Despite progress being made on the the jailbreak for iOS 7, there is no ETA on its release and everyone is advised to wait for more confirmation before updating their software. As with all new releases of Apple's iOS, we do have to be patient and hope that a jailbreak will be released as quickly as possible. Since the launch of Evasi0n which provided an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 and was later patch by Apple with iOS 6.1.3, there has been some recent breakthroughs. It seems that iOS 6.1.4 has been jailbroken by Winocm which is again great news for those who lost their jailbreak by updating their firmware. If you are running a jailbroken iOS device and you want to keep it intact, or you are running iOS 6.1.4 and in need of a jailbreak, do not upgrade to iOS 7 until you receive further confirmation from either Evad3rs or Winocm. The video recording of this is available on YouTube for everyone to see. When Evad3rs were asked about a viable jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3, Pod2g stated that they wouldn't be wasting their time. This means that those who may have been holding out hope for an untethered jailbreak for Apple's latest firmware offering can stop now. Evad3rs pretty much took themselves out of the running on this one. The team do however have several potential exploits on the table for an eventual jailbreak of a more significant iOS version in the future so that is some pretty cool news. There really is no point in Evad3rs spending time searching for exploits for iOS 6.1.3 when it is more than likely that we will see the next major iOS release later this year and any exploits that they are holding up their sleeves would be better off staying there until then. After all, when iOS 7 and the next generation iPhone hits the shelves people are going to want to be able to jailbreak these and personally we think Evad3rs should hold their cards close to their chest until then. If they were to jailbreak iOS 6.1.3 their exploits would be patched by Apple in the next firmware release so it's better for them to wait. We can't rule out the possiblity of a third party working to bring an untethered jailbreak to the latest iOS firmware release but it does seem pretty improbable. The message to take from this, is that if you are running a device on iOS 6.1.3, you won't be getting an untethered jailbreak any time soon, if ever. Those who have just purchased a device running iOS 6.1.3 have sadly missed the boat as you can only jailbreak up as far as iOS 6.1.2 but when iOS 7 releases later this year everyone will be on a level playing field again as the jailbreak community looks once more to try and find the exploits in Apple's new offering.

This new firmware release meant it was back to square one for those purchasing new devices. Anybody who is running iOS 6.1.2 or earlier can jailbreak their device but not on iOS 6.1.3. There is no untethered jailbreak just yet for the new firmware but we have seen plenty of encouraging signs for future firmware releases. Devices on A4 or earlier firmware can still enjoy a tethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3 using Redsn0w as these devices are still susceptible to the Limera1n exploit and always will be. The first hope of an untethered jailbreak similar to Evasi0n for iOS 6.1.3 was found by ex-Chronic Dev Team member P0sixninja and while his findings and those of Evad3rs member Pod2g have been encouraging, both have stated that they will probably save what they have discovered for a more significant firmware version such as iOS 7. This was confirmed on both their Twitter accounts earlier today. While this news may be somewhat disheartening to those stuck on iOS 6.1.3, the Evasi0n jailbreak did afford everyone ample time to sort their devices out on iOS 6 and apply the untethered jailbreak while they could. The takeaway news here is that those who are on iOS 6.1.3 are very unlikely to see an untethered jailbreak and the next major release expected is to be iOS 7 which should be released sometime between July and September. If you are waiting on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3 then you might just have to wait for iOS 7 first.
