In this post, we want to look at all the details we have so far starting from the last iOS 6 jailbreak. The first thing we can definitely say is that progress is being made but that those of your hoping for a jailbreak very soon are going to be disappointed. Jailbreaks take time and often a couple of months before we see anything concrete. It is more likely that we won't see anything until iOS 7.1 or further. The good news though is that certain members of the jailbreak community have found some exploits and they are working to see if these can be turned into a jailbreak. Planetbeing who is a member of the Evad3rs team has been on Twitter to confirm that they are looking into the iOS 7 GM which was released to developers. He also went on to say that his team has achieved unsigned userland based code execution in iOS 7 and they are going to start exploring the kernel next. It is still too early to make anything out of this but it is great to see that the Evad3rs team are actively working on jailbreaking iOS 7. Since the launch of Evasi0n which provided an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 and was later patch by Apple with iOS 6.1.3, there has been some recent breakthroughs. It seems that iOS 6.1.4 has been jailbroken by Winocm which is again great news for those who lost their jailbreak by updating their firmware. If you are running a jailbroken iOS device and you want to keep it intact, or you are running iOS 6.1.4 and in need of a jailbreak, do not upgrade to iOS 7 until you receive further confirmation from either Evad3rs or Winocm. The reason for this is become one of the bugs that makes a jailbreak functional is so good that the hackers who have discovered it want to keep it secret while they look for something else that can replace it. On top of this, we also know that iOS 6.1 is going to be released any day and the hackers don't want to release anything before then. David Wang aka Planetbeing announced not so long ago that he has an untethered iOS 6.0.2 jailbreak running on his iPhone. He has also stated that the vulerability that has been found is great because it let's them see what is going on. They need to be able to look at the code they are trying to change, get a dump of it, otherwise they are basically working in the dark. The worst case scenario is that hackers will have to �burn2 their current exploit in order to release a jailbreak to the public. They don't want to do this. When asked if the public will be able to jailbreak the iPhone 5, Planetbeing says that he hopes one will be released before the next iPhone comes out. It might not sound too promising, but what we do know is that an untethered jailbreak is available for the iPhone 5. We also know that an exploit has been found and that the hackers are keeping this a secret for the moment. The reason for this, so Apple don't patch it and so hackers can keep looking for additional exploits. The future of jailbreaking is not over yet and for those who are waiting anxiously to gain full control of the iPhone 5 it is promising. We may have to stay patient a little while longer but an untethered iPhone 5 jailbreak is imminent.

We have just been informed that both Pod2g and Planetbeing are now working on the long awaited iOS 6 / 6.0.1 jailbreak. There are so many people who have purchased the iPhone 5 or upgraded their existing handsets to iOS 6 and now after months of waiting for a jailbreak solution it seems that things are looking up. Planetbeing has been updating the public via his twitter feed over the past couple of months and today a new tweet from him suggests that he is making progress and working with Pod2g. According to his tweets, Planetbeing spent last friday with Pod2g where they have finally ironed out a working untethered jailbreak for iOS 6. His tweet said, �Made some nice progress today with @pod2g. I think I'll try to reward myself with a nap.� Pod2g responsed this morning which confirms that he is involved with the untethered jailbreak for iOS 6. He said, �@planetbeing oh yeah! 2 new vulnerabilities in a day, chance was with us. But we still miss that initial code execution for a public jb.� Earlier this month, Planetbeing confirmed that he has a working iOS 6 jailbreak running on his iPhone 5. The tweets today suggest that all they are missing now is an initial code execution for a public jailbreak. Jailbreaking has become increasingly over the past couple of years and this is especially true on new devices. Pod2g's involvement in the iPhone 5 jailbreak is great news for the community and it could mean that a public iOS 6 untethered jailbreak is just around the corner. It is important to note that iOS 6.1 is nearly upon us and it is likely that the Dev Teams will wait for Apple to release it before they release any untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5 and newer devices. One of the reasons that it takes so long for a jailbreak to be released has to be linked to the team that are working on the jailbreak. This tool when released to the public needs to be user friendly. An untethered jailbreak allows users to reboot their iPhone as normal which is why it is the preferred choice. Going back to the iPhone 5 jailbreak, we are happy to report that PlanetBeing is in possession of an untethered iPhone 5 jailbreak running on iOS 6.0.2. We do however have to wait for this private jailbreak to be tweaked and worked out in order to make it available to the public. Rather that just tweeting a 140 character post, Planetbeing decided to explain things in detail in the hope that Reddit users would have a deeper understanding of the technical aspect and intricacies involved in developing a jailbreak solution. The iOS 6 jailbreak isn't at the stage where it can be released to the public but the good news is that Planetbeing currently has an untethered solution running on his own iPhone 5 on iOS 6.0.2. Planetbeing also took the opportunity to go into detail about what the iPhone 5 jailbreak isn't being released in its current state and he said that the current jailbreak that is being used on his iPhone 5 uses a particular exploit that the development teams believe will be around for a long time which will potentially grant them full access to future iOS release. If they were to release this jailbreak to the public now it would burn that exploit. This we have to say, makes sense considering that jailbreaking is getting tougher with each iOS update. Planetbeing also went on to say that the reasons for not releasing this jailbreak are 1. because releasing it would burn an exploit that they want to save for themselves so that they can always get in to look at new firmware and help jailbreak in the future and 2. iOS 6.1 is coming very soon and it will likely break a small part of the jailbreak anyway so there is no point in sacrificing the many bugs it won't break. He also went on to state that the current jailbreak on his personal iPhone 5 took the use of 4+ bugs to get the jailbreak into the state that it is currently in and a couple of additional bugs are still required in order to be able to release it to the public. So you can see, jailbreaking isn't dead, it is just going through a transitional stage and we here are delighted about this news. Patience really is a virtue and before long we will have our long awaited iPhone 5 jailbreak for iOS 6.

It may sound great and give iPhone 5 users some hope but sadly the words �need dev account� pose a catch. There are often unusable jailbreak techniques that Apple Developers can use but these jailbreaks cannot be rolled out to the masses. In the best case scenario this dev-only untethered jailbreak will open the door for untethered jailbreaks for everyone and allow Cydia developers to update their tweaks accordingly. For those of you waiting for an iPhone 5 jailbreak, it means you will have to hold on a little longer.
