There was reports that an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3 was still possible but that it was not publicly available as it needed a little work. Today we have some great news for those running iOS 6.1.4 on the iPhone 5. iOS 6.1.4 was released in May for the iPhone 5 and we can report that users can now jailbreak this. Developer Winocm, who achieved the untethered jailbreak on iOS 6.1.3 last week, tweeted an image of iOS 6.1.4 running Cydia on an iPhone 5. Details are still a little scarce and we can only assume that progress is being made and Winocm's exploit is indeed capable of jailbreaking iPhone 5 on iOS 6.1.4. For all those users out there eagerly awaiting an untethered jailbreak and who are uninterested in Apple's new iOS 7, it is recommended that you ignore any software updates on your iOS device and wait for further confirmation on this untethered iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 jailbreak. If you are already running iOS 6 all the way up to iOS 6.1.2 you can still jailbreak using Evasi0n on all iOS devices. Some of the code that is required to jailbreak iOS 6.1.4 has been made public by Winocm but the downside to this is that is is not like most public jailbreaks. If you are looking to download an executable and have your iPhone jailbroken in seconds this is not for you. This code is just part of the magic required to get Cydia installed on an iPhone and users who choose this route will need to have their own kernel exploits in order to get the ball rolling. This is however a big start and with iOS 7 just around the corner we are sure there are plenty of people who would be only too happy to stick with iOS 6 if an untethered jailbreak is on the way.

Some even better news, is that the jailbreak hasn't been patched. The Evad3rs team did however work around the clock to update the Evasi0n tool and we are happy to report that you can now jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 untethered on the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch and all other devices using Evasi0n v1.4. All iOS devices that are able to run iOS 6 right the way through to iOS 6.1.2 are supported by Evasi0n including the iPhone 5. The only exception is the new Apple TV 3 which can't be jailbroken at the moment. Jailbreaking doesn't cause any harm to your device but it is always a good idea to back up your device using iTunes or iCloud before you jailbreak. Jailbreaking iOS 6.1.2 using Evasi0n v1.4 is exactly the same as before and if you have used Evasi0n to jailbreak iOS 6 or iOS 6.1, then jailbreaking iOS 6.1.2 won't be a problem. Just in case though we have included a brief tutorial that you can follow. The first thing to do is update your device to iOS 6.1.2 using iTunes. OTA updates can mess with the jailbreak so a fresh restore via iTunes is recommended. The next thing you need to do is turn off the Passcode Lock if you have it enabled and then download Evasi0n 1.4. Start up Evasi0n on your computer and simply click on the �jailbreak� option. All you have to do now is sit back and let Evasi0n do the rest. Don't touch anything while your device is being jailbroken. Once completed, your device should boot straight back up and you will see a new jailbreak icon on your home screen. Tap on this in order to finish the process. You device will reboot a few times for a little while before it finally boots into the jailbroken state. That's it, you're done. If everything has worked Evasi0n will tell you that the jailbreak is complete and Cydia will be available on your home screen.

At the moment, there is an iOS 6 jailbreak available for iPhone 4 users but this is a tethered jailbreak solution which means if the phone battery dies or the phone needs to be rebooted for any other reason, it can only be done when connected to a PC. An untethered jailbreak allows users to reboot their iPhone as normal which is why it is the preferred choice. Going back to the iPhone 5 jailbreak, we are happy to report that PlanetBeing is in possession of an untethered iPhone 5 jailbreak running on iOS 6.0.2. We do however have to wait for this private jailbreak to be tweaked and worked out in order to make it available to the public. We are hoping that the news of Pod2g's return to the jailbreaking community will help to speed this up. As we're sure you are aware, things have been very slow in the jailbreak department of late but we never gave up hope. This news comes as developer Planetbeing took to Reddit to provide a little more insight on the current status of the all elusive iOS 6 jailbreak for iPhone 5. Rather that just tweeting a 140 character post, Planetbeing decided to explain things in detail in the hope that Reddit users would have a deeper understanding of the technical aspect and intricacies involved in developing a jailbreak solution. The iOS 6 jailbreak isn't at the stage where it can be released to the public but the good news is that Planetbeing currently has an untethered solution running on his own iPhone 5 on iOS 6.0.2. Planetbeing also took the opportunity to go into detail about what the iPhone 5 jailbreak isn't being released in its current state and he said that the current jailbreak that is being used on his iPhone 5 uses a particular exploit that the development teams believe will be around for a long time which will potentially grant them full access to future iOS release. If they were to release this jailbreak to the public now it would burn that exploit. This we have to say, makes sense considering that jailbreaking is getting tougher with each iOS update. Planetbeing also went on to say that the reasons for not releasing this jailbreak are 1. because releasing it would burn an exploit that they want to save for themselves so that they can always get in to look at new firmware and help jailbreak in the future and 2. iOS 6.1 is coming very soon and it will likely break a small part of the jailbreak anyway so there is no point in sacrificing the many bugs it won't break. He also went on to state that the current jailbreak on his personal iPhone 5 took the use of 4+ bugs to get the jailbreak into the state that it is currently in and a couple of additional bugs are still required in order to be able to release it to the public. So you can see, jailbreaking isn't dead, it is just going through a transitional stage and we here are delighted about this news. Patience really is a virtue and before long we will have our long awaited iPhone 5 jailbreak for iOS 6.

Today we decided to give you a progress overview so that you know exactly what is happening and who is working on what. The estimated arrival time of this long overdue jailbreak is still unknown but hopefully we will have some great news and possibly a public release before Christmas. As you know, everyone in the jailbreak development community is hard at work on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 and the iPhone 5. iPhone Dev Team member @planetbeing is working hard and he tweeted a photo of his progress about 3 weeks ago, but since then he has been very quiet on Twitter. @pod2g spoke about his work with the jailbreak for iOS 6 at the panel conversation in Malaysia. He and @planetbeing have actually split the work between them. @pod2g is working on a userland exploit and @planetbeing is working on kernel exploits. We are still waiting on an update from both. @p0sininja has been working on getting the encryption codes for iBoot, which could ultimately be the key to dumping the BootROM. A bootROM dump hasn't been achieved for some years now but if it is, it would make untethered jailbreaks for future devices and iOS updates much easier to obtain. The time frame for a release is very vague but @p0sixninja does have other people working with him on fuzzing for bugs and crashes. You are probably aware that numerous teams and videos of jailbreaks on iPhone 5, iPhone 4S and other non-jailbroken devices have popped up on the internet over the past couple of weeks but most of these have turned out to be fake. There are also websites that report to have jailbreak solutions for the iPhone 5 but we warn everyone to be wary of these. These fake websites are cashing in on those who are growing impatient waiting for the iPhone 5 jailbreak. A jailbreak solution for the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 is being worked on and as soon as something concrete has been achieved we will let you know.
