The team behind Pangu have just released an untethered iOS 8 � 8.1 jailbreak and we weren't even expecting it. This Chinese team came out with the impromptu jailbreak for iOS 7.1.x and now they have once again come to the rescue with their solution for iOS 8.x. Pangu8 works with iOS 8 all the way through to the latest iOS 8.1 and in this post we will show you how to jailbreak your device using this tool. We do have to point out this this tool isn't completely refined so it might not be successful. Also it doesn't install Cydia so we have information on how to do this also.
Pangu doesn't install Cydia by default and while Saurik has updated Cydia for iOS 8, you will have to install it manually until the Pangu team updates the tool with the Cydia installer. If SSHing is not something you enjoy, we recommend that you wait for the updated Pangu tool.
Before you jailbreak you will need to turn off any lock screen passcode or Touch ID as well as Find My iPhone. You also need to make sure you have an iTunes restored version of iOS 8/8.1 installed on your device for the jailbreak to work. If you updated via OTA the jailbreak won't work. Make sure that you device is backed up too and you have iTunes 12.0.1 or later installed on your PC and running in the background while the jailbreak is taking place. The Pangu jailbreak supports the following devices; iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPad (all models), and the iPod touch 5.
The first thing you need to do to jailbreak iOS 8/8.1 untethered using Pangu is to download Pangu for Windows. Next right click on the Pangu icon and click run as administrator. With Panug running, connect your iDevice to your PC using USB. Click on the checkbox that says PP to uncheck it. Next you have to press the big blue button in the centre of the display to begin the jailbreak process. Your device will reboot a couple of times so be patient. Once the jailbreak has been completed, you will see a new Pangu icon on your device's home screen. This confirms that your jailbreak was successful.
Installing Cydia After Jailbreaking With Pangu
The first thing you need to do is backup the content on your device. Next you will need to download the latest Cydia.deb file as well as the cydia-lproj file. Once you have the .deb files you will need to SFTP the file to your device. To do this, Mac users should use Cyberduck, while windows users are advised to use WinSCP. Next you need to go to Settings > Wi-Fi on your devicfe and find the hotspot that both your device and PC/Mac are connected to. Next to the connection's details hit the �i� and make note of the IP address. Next you are going to use your designated SFTP client, key in the IP address as well �root� for username and �alpine� for the password. Once the file browser appears, drop the .deb files into the root folder of your device.
After this, things can get a little tricky because you will be firing in commands that you may not be familiar with, so you need to make sure that you take your time and watch carefully if you are not used to doing this. To start an SSH command line session on Windows you need to hit Crtl + T. Then you need to run the command:
dpkg -i cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb
Now run this command:
dpkg -i cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb
The next thing to do is reboot your device and that should be it. You should now have Cydia installed on your jailbroken device. Remember if this all seems a little too much, all you have to do is wait until Pangu is updated to include the Cydia installers.
