Today we had announcements for both hardware and software and Apple's Craig Federighi and Phil Schiller took to the stage to announce, and in some cases demonstrate what was new. In this post we want to give you a quick overview of what was announced today so you know what has been announced and what you want to get your hands on next. OS X YosemiteApple announced today that OS X 10.10 Yosemite was going to be made available immediately, and that it is free. This new software release is for Apple's Mac operating system and it works with iOS 8. Yosemite ties into iPhones in order to offer a seamless experience across the two. This includes the ability to start a task on one device while finishing it on another. You are also able to send SMS messages and make phone calls from the Mac via your iPhone. It's available to download right now. iOS 8.1Speaking of iOS, an update to iOS 8.1 will go love on Monday. This means that you will all be able to see your Camera Roll again. A number of bug fixes are included and Apple's iCloud-based photo management system is going into full-on public beta at the same time. Apple Pay will also finally make its appearance with the release of iOS 8.1. 27-inch iMac With 5K Retina DisplayThe new iMac with Retina display was announced and this comes with a 27-inch 5K display and some pretty hefty innards. This new $2,499 iMac is really impressive and many are wondering if this will actually be a competitor to Apple's own Mac Pro. This will give you an idea of just how impressive the new iMac really is. iPad Air 2Two new iPads will be made available for pre-order on Friday, with shipping set for the following week. The new iPad Air 2 is thinner than you would think possible and it has also gotten some new features too. It really is the most powerful iPad yet, and from the demonstrations given, we can't see it disappointing anyone. It got some new cameras too which is great to see. iPad mini 3There�s a new iPad mini 3 also, though disappointingly it�s not been given a speed bump and still has last year�s A7-powered processor. That�s a real shame, but hopefully next time around Apple will make up for this. Both new iPads get Touch ID and Apple Pay for online payments. Mac mini 2014Apple has also given the Mac mini a bit of a hardware bump while also cutting $100 off its starting price which is probably more important than the speed increase in reality. This little device hasn't been updated in quite some time so it is nice to see it getting a bit of attention and of course a price drop. iTunes 12The first public release of iTunes 12 also made the news after the event, and is now available to download for both Mac OS X and Windows users. iWorkAs promised by Apple, the iWork suite for iOS and OS X both got a significant update, bringing with it Handoff and Continuity features along with support for iCloud Drive. To sum up, we have to say that the Apple event has been pretty successful with plenty of things to discuss. It will take place at Town Hall on the company's Cupertino campus. This event was a certainty and we are glad that we finally have the official date. This is going to be Apple's second major keynote in a many months and in this post we will tell you what we think the event will entail. We don't know exactly what is on the agenda but the official tagline �it's been way too long� is on all the invitations and this suggests that at least one of the products or features at this event has been due some attention for quite a long time. This tagline could allude to the Mac mini, which hasn't had an upgrade of any significance for nearly two years. A number of reports suggest that the compact desktop could be subject to a number of enhancements, although it isn't suggested that a redesign is on the agenda. There is also talk of the iMac being treated to Retina display, which would bring the all-in-one desktop up to par with the likes of the MacBook Pro in terms of sharpness. While the 27 inch model could be getting the 5K treatment, the smaller 21.5 inch model won't be joining it. The iPad Air is going to get a refresh and we have already seen leaks that have pointed to a thinner form factor, Touch ID, and minor aesthetic tweaks. The iPad mini might also be following suite, and if so, we expect that both of Apple's tablets will benefit from a variant of the new A8 processor which was first seen with the iPhone 6. OS X Yosemite is also poised to hit the Mac App Store very soon and we are fairly confident that this desktop software will be mentioned at this event. It was originally announced way back at WWDC and we expect it to be announced on the 16th. IOS 8.1 is also on the way and that is going to bring with it Apple Pay. With all of these things to look forward to, Thursday's event is going to be one that you won't want to miss. The Wall Street Journal property's Joh Paczkowski has claimed that October 22nd is the date that we will get to see what new iPads Apple plans on unveiling. While this event is set to focus on Apple's upcoming tablets, it is entirely possible that the new Max Pro and OS X Mavericks could put in an appearance. There aren't that many details available at this moment, but AllThingsD seem confident that we will see both the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2 being presented on stage. This puts to bed the claims that the iPad mini 2 won't be ready on time. Paczkowski also said that the iPad mini 2 will pack a new Retina display too, which is another fact that has been a matter of debate over the past couple of weeks. Given the fact that AllThingsD have in the past been very accurate we are inclined to believe their sources. We are hoping that the new iPad mini 2 with a Retina display will be unveiled. Invites for this event should be arriving any day now if this news is correct so we'll know soon enough exactly what to expect. It is also expected that the new iPads will feature Apple's Touch ID sensor and if we are lucky enough we will also get to see a gold color option for the iPad mini 2 and the iPad 5. For the time being, we remain in the dark but in a couple of days we should know more and we will report it all here so be sure to stay tuned to the blog for more information.

Apple To Announce New Apple TV During September Event

Most of the talk surrounding this event has been about the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, both of which are expected to be shown off publicly for the first time with their release happening about two weeks later. Another Apple product that is thought to be refreshed is the Apple TV. The Apple TV has been growing in features with each software update and with iOS 7 just around the corner this is set to continue. You can only do so much with software however and at some point the internals need to be upgraded too. We have heard a rumor that Apple is going to release a new Apple TV on the 10th of September too. New York based platform Panjiva believes that this might actually be the case. According to Panjiva, Apple took delivery of a shipment labelled as containing a �set top box with communication� function on the 25th of August this year. This shipment came from BYD Precision Manufacture in Shenzhen. A week before this on the 18th of August, a similar shipment arrived labelled as �set top boxes�. Now we know this doesn't prove anything but it is interesting and with the September 10th iPhone event just a few days away, it is possible that the Apple TV will see a refresh too. As with all rumors, we do have to wait for official information and in this case that is only a couple of days.

We know that they are going to bring out the new iPhone 5S and a budget iPhone dubbed the iPhone 5C, but there are rumors of the iPad 5 and a second generation iPad mini too. A report from Bloomberg states that we could see Apple unveiling some new iPads at the event too. The iPad 5 is expected to borrow the same form factor that has made the iPad mini such a winner, with thinner bezels allowing the iPad to be brought down to size. The second generation iPad mini might incorporate a retina display which was the main gripe that most consumers had with this device. Bloomberg didn't explicitly state that the iPads would definitely be introduced in September and we could see Apple holding off until October to release them. Last year we had the iPhone 5 released in September and the iPad 4 was released the following month. With two iPhones set to be released this time around, it could be a bit too much for Apple to announce everything in the one go. So there you have it, the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2 could possibly be unveiled next month. Of course we don't know this for certain yet but if we do get any further clarification we will be sure to let you know.
