Apple has just released iOS 7.1 for the iphone, iPad and iPod touch. If you currently have a jailbreak on your device then you must avoid updating to this new firmware version. The Evasi0n7 untethered jailbreak took has been patched by Apple so it is imperative that you don't download the new version unless you are willing to give up any immediate hope of a jailbreak.
Even though Apple pushed out several iOS 7.0.x releases without patching Evasi0n, we were expecting that iOS 7.1 would be patched. Whether the Evad3rs team has any exploits up its sleeve to work on iOS 7.1 remains to be seen. It may well be that any current progress is going to be saved for iOS 8 which is due to be released later this year. If this is to be the case, it is even more essential that jailbreak fans remain on iOS 7.0.x for the time being.
Thanks to Evad3rs, which includes jailbreakers like Pod2g and MuscleNerd, Cydia has been thriving and there have been some amazing tweaks, apps and themes which have come on stream over the past couple of months. We are hoping that this trend will continue, whether iOS 7.1 is breached or not. If you don't upgrade your firmware to iOS 7.1 you will be able to continue getting some great stuff from Cydia.
The essential message to take from this post is not to update to iOS 7.1 if you want to keep your jailbreak. If an when a jailbreak for this firmware is made available we will be sure to let you know and of course provide all the information you need on how to jailbreak you device. Until then, however, it is a matter of just sitting tight and keeping your current firmware.
